Kisspeptin-10 and LH pulses: a small-scale human study

Evidence level: Human physiological intervention study · Publication year: 2011
This overview discusses one original scientific publication on Kisspeptin-10. The source is included in PubMed, the literature database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
What was studied?
The hormonal response to kisspeptin-10 was studied in healthy men. The study examined LH release and, with continuous administration, pulse frequency and pulse size.
What did the researchers find?
Kisspeptin-10 triggered LH release. During infusion, the authors reported higher LH pulse frequency, larger pulses, and changes in testosterone.
What are the limitations?
Small groups of healthy volunteers and hormonal endpoints are not evidence of improved fertility, treatment of testosterone deficiency, or long-term safety.
Significance for research
The study describes the role of kisspeptin-10 within the hormonal regulatory circuit; clinical benefits require separate research.
